What would happen if the US had a president-elect who didn't want to serve?

Donald Trump said to day he might change his mind about running for President. It started me thinking, what if we go the Republican nomination, and the day before the election he says he didn't want to serve. He drops out of the race but people vote for him anyway. Can the US force him to become president?
